According to a probable cause affidavit, Calvin Lee Butler IV has been charged in a shooting incident that wounded his father.
On arrival at the scene on North Leach, the younger Butler was placed in handcuffs and told officers Jackson Barton and Rick Garcia where he had tossed a handgun. Using flashlights the officers located a .32 caliber weapon and ammunition.
As Butler was being transported to the Blaine County Jail, he made statements including ‘Y’all didn’t find his body’ and ‘he’s Satan he needs to suffer,’ as well as references to throwing someone into a furnace.
When Garcia made contact with the victim, the affidavit shows, he was at Love’s Travel Stop where his wife is employed. Calvin Butler III stated his son shot him and said that the only way he could be happy was if he shot his father and incinerated him.
The pair were seated in the house with the elder Butler in a recliner and the younger Butler at the end of the couch. After he was shot, the elder Butler ran to the police department, the sheriff's office and then headed toward Love’s. He was wounded in the lower chest.
The younger Butler, 21, is charged with intentionally shooting or discharge of a firearm with intent to kill. He remains in the Blaine County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.
Watonga Chief of Police Briston Lowry said those charges could be changed based on the condition of the victim.
