Late August Means It’s Fair Time

The fair will return to the Blaine County Fairgrounds next week. In addition to the standard fair fare, such as exhibits from county residents, both students and adults, livestock shows and judging contests, the cake and pie auction and the tractor driving contest, there is also a schedule of entertainment.

Friday August 28, Ashley Crews will take the stage at 2 p.m., followed by Sharon Kay Cochran at 4. Local favorite Katie Bellew is slated for Saturday at noon.

There are also some 20 commercial booths anticipated, including candidates for county commission, tribal outreach, health and other services, and Roman Nose State Park.

As of press time, four food trucks were planned, like Blue Grandpa, Okie Ice, Okie Dokie Teas and Sipn Treats. This is in addition to the concession stand that benefits the county’s 4-H and FFA clubs.

Thursday August 27, non-livestock entries and exhibits will be accepted and/or may be set up. Friday is when the livestock entries arrive, the livestock judging and pie baking contest takes place, rabbits, poultry and exhibits are judged and, that evening, the cake auction is held.

Saturday is the big day, with the swine show first, followed by the beef, goats and sheep shows. The tractor driving contest is held simultaneously with the livestock shows, but drivers who are also showing livestock are worked in around their show schedule.

Also scheduled this year are kids’ activities including face painting, a seed planting station, a bean bag toss, build-a-pinwheel and coloring pages.
