Canton Search Ends in Tragedy

The search for a missing Cherokee resident ended Saturday when his body was pulled from Canton Lake.

Social media posts went out Friday asking for information or sightings of George Highfill, 63, from Cherokee in Alfalfa County. His relatives and friends were concerned because they had not heard from him in 24 hours.

Saturday, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol issued a statement that Highfill had been found drowned. There was very little other information issued other than the incident is pending investigation. The highway patrol investigates drowning and boating accidents or fatalities in Oklahoma.
