Hires, Resignations Discussed by Board

Even though the state has not unveiled plans to reopen schools for the fall term, Watonga School Board met in regular session April 13 to take up the annual process of rehiring teachers and accepting resignations of those who don’t wish to return whether for retirement or another reason.

Those resignations included Haley Hammons, a first-grade teacher at the elementary school, Colton Looper, first year wrestling coach, and Carrie Compton, a third-grade teacher at the elementary school.

The board also agreed to hire April Shrader as an elementary school teacher and rehire an entire list of other teachers and support staff for the 2020-21 school year.

The board also took up its annual contracts with Moore Occupational Therapy to provide student services, and the Center for Education Law to assist the schools with compliance and legal issues.

As important as making plans and issuing contracts for the upcoming school year, the board discussed a resolution that would allow it to change the school calendar while ensuring employees are paid in spite of the changes in the calendar.
