An old abandoned restaurant in Geary came to a spectacular end April 12, Easter Sunday. Geary Fire Chief Jeff Choate said the fire had burned for a time before the call came in at 2 a.m.“It was fully engulfed when we got there,” he said. “It was so hot we have no way of knowing how it started.” Because of the abandoned nature of the structure and the heat produced by the fire, no request for investigation on the conflagration was made.
Choate said that his department does not often call for the state fire marshal to investigate fires unless there is a death as a result, citing distance from Oklahoma City and wait time on assignment of an investigator. The building in the Easter fire was a total loss, but Choate said there was no insurance on the structure, so no investigation was warranted.
