Some Watonga residents were pleasantly surprised when they opened their most recent utility bill. Sadly, the sensation will be short-lived.
According to city manager Larry Mitchell, there was a billing error on all 1,330 residential accounts that used an incorrect rate for electricity charges. The snafu was discovered June 1 and corrected bills were sent out June 2. Those corrected bills will show the actual amount due, not the difference between the corrected total and the previous bill.
If any resident pays their bill on time from the first billing, they will not be placed on the shutoff list, but rather will receive a reminder from the city.
Anyone with questions on their bill is encouraged to call the light and water department at (580) 623-7353.
