Watonga Girls Dominate Home Track Meet Saturday

The Watonga Lady Eagles’ run of excellence continued Saturday on their home track, as they easily won the meet with the best team score on the day and carried several events, as well.

The girls as usual dominated the relay events, winning the 800m, 1600m and 3200m relays.

Jocelyn Turney, who recently broke the Watonga school record in the 400m dash, won the event again on Saturday with a time of 58.68, just 23 one-hundredths of a second off her record time.

Jaiden Alexander took the 200m dash for the Lady Eagles at 27.38 seconds, and Riley Coleman won the 1600m run (5:30.61) as well.

The girls weren’t quite as dominant in the field events but did notch second-place finishes in the pole vault (Abby Boeckman, 8’6”), long jump (Boeckman, (15’6”) and discus (Josey Rinehart, 93’11”).

Overall, the strong showings gave Watonga a 190 team score. It was followed by Chisholm (150), Kingfisher (135), Thomas-Fay-Custer (71), Woodward (39), Minco (34), Cashion (23) and Chisholm’s B team (2)

Ẇatonga’s boys finished fifth at the meet. The Eagles scored 65 team points and finished behind Kingfisher (168), Thomas-Fay-Custer (128), Woodward (93.5), Chisholm (80.5).

Minco (33), Cashion (30) and Chisholm’s B team (2) rounded out the boys’ field.

Cy Walters won the 3200m run for the Eagles with a time of 10:48.90, 17 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Deondre Dunn took the 110m hurdles event at 17.06, and also won the 300m hurdles with a time of 42.43.

On the middle school side, Watonga’s girls finished in second place at the home meet and the boys finished in third. Chisholm Middle School won both.
