To encourage our citizens to upgrade their lawns and flower beds, the American Legion Post 125 of Watonga is sponsoring its “Pride in Watonga Yard Recognition.”
Starting July 2, the yard judges will complete their trips up and down Watonga streets. They will pick five winners in the five districts defined as: (1) west of Hwy. 8, (2) north of 11th Street, (3) east of Forest Ave., (4) south of Third Street and (5) north of 3rd, east of Hwy 8, south of 11th Street, and west of Forest Ave.
Judging will take place the first Friday/Saturday of July and August. In all, 10 winners will be announced.
Nominate your yard, or your friend/neighbor’s yard, by calling 580-623-5017 and provide the name and address to be judged. This will guarantee the judges will consider that location.
Points will be awarded for: neat and trim yards, with sufficient landscaping, colorful flower beds, a variety of plantings, shrubbery, trees.
Legion members will place “Pride In Watonga Yard Winner” signs for about 30 days in each of the five monthly winners’ yards.
This competition strives to call attention to the value our citizens place on wellkept yards. The local American Legion Post would like our neighborhoods to be attractive for our citizens and our traveling guests.
Legion Commander Neal Riley said Legion members realize that “Pride in Watonga” begins at home with a progressive town that values its attractiveness.
