Blaine Co. COVID Updates

WATONGA – After a summertime spike in COVID-19 cases, Oklahoma’s virus transmission rates are dropping statewide and especially in Blaine County.

That’s according to data released last week by the Oklahoma State Department of Health, which shows Blaine County with a transmission rate of 13.6 new cases per day per 100,000 population. Only Grant County, at 13.2, had a lower rate.

Together, Blaine and Grant were the only two Oklahoma counties in the yellow, low-risk COVID-19 risk level, according to the state’s guidance. Every other county is in the orange, moderate-risk phase.

Updated data is expected on Wednesday.

According to data compiled by USA Today, just under half of all Oklahomans are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19. In Blaine County, about 40% of residents are fully vaccinated and about 46.5% have received at least one vaccine dose.

The health department is now offering “booster” doses of the Pfizer vaccine for elderly individuals, residents of long-term care facilities, individuals with underlying medical conditions, and those at increased risk of exposure “because of occupational or institutional setting.”
