North Is Always Up

Moses, the lawgiver, and leader of Israel, instructed God’s people saying, “you have been wandering around this mountain long enough; turn North (Deuteronomy 2:3).”

We should never be willing to live any year just as we lived the last one. No one is striving for the best things unless they are intent on an upward and forward movement continually. This is what Moses meant when he said to Israel …” turn North” …it’s time to move “up” and forward.”

Are you always living in the same old groove of routine work and daily tasks? If so, even in this treadmill grind, you should still be making progress some way. We ought to do the same things better each day. Then, in the midst of routine, our outward and inner life will be growing in earnestness, in force, in strength and depth.

Too many people live day by day, month by month, year by year going around and around the same old beaten paths, with no forward or upward improvement in their life at all.

By doing so, they end up they end up just where they begin. Our daily walk should be like one whose path takes us a little higher until al last we have “turned north,” gone a new direction, take a new path, plowed new ground, moved up.

Each of us must “choose” to live life a little better each day. One writes:

“Speak a shade kindlier than the year before;

Pray a little oftener; love a little more;

Cling a little closer to the Father’s love;

Thus, life below shall closer grow to life above”
