GEARY – The Geary chief of police is asking for the public’s help to keep oilfield water trucks from using city fire hydrants.
Chief Cecil Harrall posted a video on Facebook Tuesday saying the hookups are not only illegal, but could pollute the city’s water supply.
“If the water backflushes back into the hydrant, some of that water that they have in their tanks, the bad water, could be flushed and contaminate our water system for the city of Geary,” Harrall said.
Harrall requested that any Geary resident who witnesses this behavior contact the police right away. The illegal fill-ups are generally occurring between 5 and 6 a.m., he said.
The GPD can be reached directly at 405-884-2167. “If you could just contact the police department,” Harrall said, “and we can stop this.”
He said any worker who needs water for their truck can visit City Hall, which can direct them to a water source northeast of town.
