High Speed Chase Through Geary Lands Texas Man in Jail

About 7:30 p.m. Sept. 19, calls started coming into the Geary Police Department about a semi traveling west on Main Street at a high rate of speed.

An officer located the truck and attempted to make a stop at the intersection of Main and Galena streets.

The truck did not stop and continued South on Galena, refusing to stop and disregarding traffic signs. With officers in pursuit, the truck swung west on South Street, or Cemetery Road as it is also known.

Once on Cemetery Road, with officers still on his tail, the trucker drove about five miles west. According to Geary Public Information Officer Terryl Allen, speeds at times were up to 75 miles per hour.

At the intersection with N 2570 Road, the truck turned south and in the sharp curve to the south on that road, Allen said, the driver lost control of the vehicle, crashed and rolled onto the truck’s side.

The driver then attempted to elude police on foot, running down the dirt road some 150 yards until an officer using a Taser brought him to a halt and placed him under arrest.

Gregory Gonzalez, of Edinburgh, Texas, was booked into the Blaine County Jail with charges of reckless driving, eluding police, destruction of private and city property and a host of other infractions. There are also a charge of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, but the results of that testing has not yet arrived.

Allen said the Geary Police Department was assisted by several officers of the Blaine County Sheriff’s office.
