4-H Attends Leadership Conference

Blaine County 4-H was represented at the West District Leadership Conference by four 4-H Members: Avery Fisher, Kadence Lewis, Jack Luckie and Jayce Schutz. Sponsors with the group were: Tara Fisher, volunteer 4-H leader, Becky Bedwell and Dana Baldwin, OSU extension educators.

The Blaine County 4-H members were among the 164 members that participated in the conference from the west side of the state. The conference was held Oct. 12-14 at the Stride Center in Enid.

The conference started on Wednesday evening with campaign speeches from district officer candidates and then they participated in workshops taught by the current officer team. On Thursday, they were involved in leadership activities and citizenship activities throughout the day. Rhett Laubach was the keynote speaker on Thursday morning and team building activities were led by Missy Quintero. Thursdayafternoon they assisted with a citizenship project with Enid MainStreet by helping hang Christmas lights around the downtown square. In addition, that day they went ax throwing at Enid Ax and had special appearances that evening by Pistol Pete and Rob Bomhoff, the OSU Spirit Rider. Rob was a former 4H member from Kingfisher County. he day concluded with a banquet and a dance.

Before the conference ended on Friday, the group learned from speaker Natalie Churchhow to become more involved in their community by. Natalie is the owner of Ruth’s Christian Bookstore and was a former state 4-H president. She taught them about being motivated citizens of the community.
