SENIOR CENTER NEWS

By Sharon Gates

Hi, everybody! I’m back again. I hope you all had a good week. Mine was rather quiet. But next week I get to go have my taxes figured. Can’t wait! We always have to pay federal tax but usually get a little refund from the state. I hear everything is working out differently for folks this year and lots of people who usually get refunds are having to pay this year. I’m no t looking forward to having ours figured. Oh, well.

Last week our regular carried our meals for us. Brenda and Curt Stein carried meals two days, plus Pat Brewer, Janice Hood and Vernon Brickman. We thank you all so much for doing this for us.

Sandra Hightower brought in cans for us. Thank you Sandra.

Basil and Danna Taylor made a donation in memory of Roger Lamathe. Thank you to the Taylors, we appreciate your gift.

Mary May renewed her membership to the center. We’re sure glad to have Mary join us.

Saturday night we had 28 people come in for games, food and music. Everyone seemed to have real good time. We enjoyed the music provided by David Green and Tom Autry. We had some new folks join us. We’re sure glad to have them, too.

Sunday we attended the fundraiser sponsored by the Masons for Peggy Werthman. There was a really good turnout for it, they even ran out of food a time or two but quickly remedied the situation. The food was very good. Some of the senior citizen ladies supplied desserts. It was supposed to end about 1 but it was almost 2 when we left as they were cleaning up. It was one of the biggest turnouts I’ve seen in a long while.

The quilters are really moving on the quilt in the frame. They’re gonna have it done before long. I don’ t know who all was there on Thursday but I do know Louise Cooper has joined in to help them. Louise recently retired and we’re sure glad to have her joining in out activities at the center.

There is a beautiful new quilt hanging at the center. Mae Thompson made it. It has a lot of purple but other colors, too. Come by and see it.

Here’s our menu for the next several days. Pick out what days look good to you, then come in and join us on these days. If you want to pick up one or more to go, call us before noon. And don’t forget our biscuits and gravy beginning at 8 a.m. each Thursday.
