Rodney Cowan of Watonga has been appointed to the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion & Research Board. The CBB is responsible for guiding the national Beef Checkoff Program.
Cowan runs a stocker operation in Blaine County alongside his wife Carol, and son and daughter-in-law Lance and Amy Cowan. He is excited to serve on the CBB, promote the beef industry and share his beef story. “With so many people removed from the farming and ranching business, it is more important now than ever to show them that their food doesn’t come from just the local grocery store,” he said. “I appreciate the CBB promoting our products and helping consumers to understand where their food comes from and helping to gain their trust.”
Jimmy Taylor, 2023 CBB chairman, is pleased to welcome Cowan as a member of the CBB. “With Rodney’s involvement in the industry, he understands the challenges and opportunities that all beef producers face today,” he said. “His dedication to the beef industry and overall background make him a valuable resource for the CBB and the Beef Checkoff as we continue to pursue our primary goal: driving demand for beef.”
The CBB consists of 101 members, including domestic beef, dairy and veal producers, as well as importers of beef and beef products. Forty-two states have individual members serving on the Board. The remaining states are divided into three regions. Each Beef Board member is appointed by the Secretary of Agriculture from nominations submitted by certified nominating organizations that represent beef and dairy producers in each state or region. Importer appointments are drawn from nominations by importer associations.
