SENIOR CENTER NEWS

Hi, everyone! I hope you had a good week. I’m happy to say the garage sale went really well. First I want to thank everyone that donated items for the sale, the center was packed with merchandise for sale. Thank you all so much for your support. We really appreciate all that was donated.

I also want to thank everyone who volunteered their time to help with the sale. There were several workers each day and they stayed busy.

Next, I have to thank all the shoppers that came in to look and buy. Because of you we raised enough to pay our electric bill for the month, and that’s a lot. We really appreciate your support for the center.

We have some items left and I understand they will be boxed up and donated to various thrift stores. It will not be going to Opportunities because their thrift store is so full that they are not taking donations at this time.

The turnout we had was wonderful and a lot of sales were made. However, it will not keep us afloat for long. If we can’t get more people to come in to eat, take meals to go or have meals delivered we’re not going to last long. Between the utilities and the cost of food we can’t continue to go in the hole each month. It is just not sustainable.

Keep us in mind for your noon meal. It only costs $7 and you get your meal, a salad, dessert and drink. That’s a bargain.

Janet Edsall brought in okra from her garden and Connie Burcham brought in squash and cucumbers from her garden. We really appreciate all those fresh vegetables, they taste so good. Thank you, Janet and Connie.

The Church of Christ donated 11 pizzas. Those got spread around and I know they were enjoyed. Thank you for thinking of us.

Margie Smith brought in cans, thank you, Margie.

Richard and Sandra Hightower donated in memory of Glenda Brown and Yvonne Christensen donated in memory of Fred Lucas and Glenda Brown. We appreciate and thank you for these donations.

Estalene Teply renewed her membership. Thank you, Estalene, we appreciate all you do for the center.

We’ll be meeting again for music and games Saturday, Aug. 12, beginning at 6 p.m. Come join us and bring a snack to share.

Here’s our menu for the next few days. Please call before 10 a.m. for a meal to be delivered and before noon for meals to go. Come n about 11:30 a.m. if you want to eat with us.

Thursday, Aug. 10 – Breaded pork loin Friday – Ham and sweet potatoes Monday – Soup and chili Tuesday – Chicken strips Wednesday – Kiwanis meets at noon, we eat at 11 Thursday, Aug. 17 – Liver and onions Friday – Fried chicken As far as I know, they’ll still have biscuits and gravy on Thursday mornings.

I hope you are all surviving the heat OK. The little dabs of rain have been nice but I think mostly they just spotted the cars up, until Monday morning!

Take care of yourselves and stay safe. ‘Til next week …
