Dates and other particulars for the 46th annual Watonga Cheese Festival have been announced.
The biggest change is that there will only be one day of the festival this year, Saturday, Oct. 14.
According to Watonga Economic Development Authority director Kim Jenkins, the change was made based on vendor feedback, claiming they didn’t get much foot traffic on Friday. Additional research showed that many if not most festivals have gone to a single day format.
A second change is that the festival is now put on under the auspices of WEDA and the city, whereas previously it was done by the Watonga Chamber of Commerce. When that entity folded, the city picked up the festival to keep it going.
The annual logo contest was won by Katie Simmons, for the third time. This year’s logo features a golden W in the center of Growing Together underscored by a ribbon that reads ‘By cheesing your dreams.’
The announcement read “This year’s theme is reflective of the growth and hopes and dreams of the City of Watonga and its citizens.”
The festival will run from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., although the Rat Race will be earlier that morning.
