Hi, everybody! It’s great to be here on a cool Sunday evening to write the news from the Center. I say it’s cool because I’m in my house, not outside where it’s baking. I had to get out for a few minutes this afternoon and I noticed the bank sign said it was 110 degrees. I didn’t stay out long.
There were only six people that had their blood pressure and blood sugar levels checked last Friday. If we can’t get more people to participate, the nurses might stop coming. It’s a good thing, especially for us older people to have it checked once in a while. High blood pressure and diabetes can slip up on you with few warning signs. Think about coming in next time this is offered. It’s free!
Next Saturday, Aug. 26, we’ll be getting together for games and music. Grab a snack of some kind to share and come on down about 6 p.m. You’ll be glad you did.
It’s a little early but I wanted to remind you we’ll be closed on Monday, Sept. 4 for Labor Day. Our cooks deserve an extra day off!
Judy Curtin donated some office supplies. I don’t know what they were but I’m sure they’ll be used.
If you see John don’t get excited. He looks like he’s been in a big fight with both eyes black and blue. He’s had some surgery last week on his eyelids. He’s had a lot of swelling, too, but it seems to be going down. He’ll be good in a couple of weeks when he gets the stitches out.
Pat Brewer, Sharon Barnes, Curt and Brenda Stein, Janice Hood and Vernon Brickman carried our meals on wheels last week. We sure appreciate them helping us with this program.
This is our menu for the next few days. Call before 10 a.m. for delivery or before noon to order a meal to go.
Thursday, Aug. 24 – BBQ ribs Friday – Roast beef. It’s our birthday dinner. If you are a paid member and had a birthday in August, you get a free meal.
Monday – Chili and soup Tuesday – Chicken casserole Wednesday – Kiwanis meets at noon, we eat at 11 a.m.
Thursday, Aug. 31 – Baked chicken Friday – Indian tacos And we still have biscuits and gravy on Thursday mornings beginning at 8 a.m. This is by donation.
I hope you’re managing to stay cool during this intense heat. John and I just don’t get out during the heat, especially in the afternoons. Please take care that you don’t get too hot and take care of yourselves. ‘ Til next week …
