It is Homecoming Week in Watonga. The festivities will run all week long and include events at all schools.
For example, on Monday, there was a homecoming softball game with Thomas, where the seniors were presented for senior night and everyone was encouraged to wear red, white and blue. That game was at 4:40, followed by a middle school football game vs Thomas with the same clothing colors encouraged.
The students chose Barbie as their theme this year, and Monday was western Barbie dress up day, with Tuesday as twin Barbie dress up day. Today (Wednesday) was everything but a backpack Barbie day and Thursday as 80s Barbie dress up day. Gnarly, dude.
Friday is Watonga Spirit Gear and Homecoming shirt day.
Those wishing to order mums may order from the sophomore class or from Watonga Floral by September13 and voting for homecoming king and queen takes place Thursday, September 14.
The annual bonfire will be held that evening with games like football toss, cornhole and horseshoes beginning at 7 and the fire being lit at 8 p.m. The games are sponsored by the U.S. Army.
Friday, September 15 will be a day-long celebration with the pep assembly beginning at 10:45. The parade will begin at 2 p.m. and run down Main Street. Royalty coronation is promptly at 6:15 followed by kickoff at 7 p.m.
The homecoming dance will take place Saturday, September 16 in the Commons at the high school, running from 810 p.m.
