SENIOR CENTER NEWS

Hi, everybody! Have you looked at your calendar? It’s February! Remember Valentine’s Day is only a couple of weeks away. Get that candy bought and cards ready to mail. I buy John candy every year. I get the small heart shaped box made by Elmer’s Candy Company because it’s made in his hometown of Ponchatoula, Louisiana. They make good candy. He usually shares it with me. There’s only about five pieces in the box, so we don’t get too much sugar. It’s the thought that counts.

Last Saturday night we had 31 people come in to play games and listen to music played by David Greene and Tom Autry. Several of the guys enjoyed playing pool. I played chicken foot. We always have a good time and lots of food of all kinds. We’ll be meeting again on February 10. Mark your calendar and come join us. Just bring a covered dish to share.

Margie Smith brought in cans and Best Choice labels. Mary May and Yvonne Christensen donated in memory of Maxine Peters. Basil and Danna Taylor and Vernon and Susan Brickman donated in memory of Larry Bernhardt. Thanks to all of you for your thoughtful gifts. We do appreciate them.

Last week the quilters finished the quilt they have been working on for so long. Saturday night I noticed they had already put a new one in the frame. This one was brought in by Connie Burcham, an old one she bought at an estate sale. I am sure it’s very pretty and I will check it out the first chance I get. The quilters were Estalene, Judy and Louise.

I see on my notes that the center was closed last Monday. I suppose it was due to the extreme cold. I know I didn’t want to get out. But thanks to Sharon Barnes, Janice Hood, Vernon Brickman and Curt and Brenda Stein for braving the cold to deliver meals for us. We sure appreciate their help, and all the others who help us.

I also want to say thanks to all our volunteers and board members, and our cooks, Dorothy and Janie. They keep us operating. Here is our menu for the next few days: Thursday, Feb. 1 – Chicken strips Friday – Indian tacos Monday – Taco salad Tuesday – Beef pot pie Wednesday – Kiwanis meets at noon, we eat at 11 a.m.

Thursday Feb. 8 – Spaghetti and meat sauce Friday – Breaded chicken breast Call us at 623-4511 before 10 a.m. if you want a meal delivered and before noon if you want one to go. And there’s biscuits and gravy on Thursdays, beginning at 8 a.m. Come eat with us or get it to go.

I sure enjoyed the football games and I was glad to see Kansas City win and it looks like the 49ers will win. I’m glad!

I hope you all have a great week. I’ll talk to you again next week. ‘Til then
