It is almost time for the Blaine County Livestock Show and the associated events including the bonus auction.
The show will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, February 17 with hogs showing first. That will be followed by goats and sheep. Cattle will be shown beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday, February 18.
The annual bonus auction will be held Tuesday, February 20. It will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a complimentary meal followed by an award ceremony at 6:15. The auction will be held after the awards, utilizing a Powerpoint presentation to showcase the exhibitors, the animals and their awards. The student showmen look toward the auction to assist them with the costs associated with purchase and raising a show animal or animals.
The livestock boosters recognize not everyone who wants to support the youth of the community will be able to attend the bonus auction. Those individuals can instead mail contributions to the livestock boosters. If the donation is earmarked for a specific exhibitor, or exhibitors from a specific town, it should be designated as such. Otherwise, the monies will be divided among all the exhibitors. The mailing address for the livestock boosters is: C/O Alicia Robison, 18129 State Highway 51, Okeene. The zip code is 73763.
There are 19 planned exhibitors from Canton, four from Geary, 25 from Okeene and 25 from Watonga. Each student showman may exhibit one or more animals. There will also be the Ring of Champions, which began a year ago. In this event, special needs students are assisted in showing an animal by the animal’s owner/exhibitor.
Anyone who wants more information about the livestock show or the bonus auction may call the livestock boosters club at (580) 747-6015 or (580) 822-1241.
