SENIOR CENTER NEWS

Hi, everyone! I’m back with another report on the happenings at the Watonga Senior Citizens’ Center. I hope you’ve all had a good week, the rain has been nice.

If you have been reading my column, you know that Sharon Barnes has been delivering meals on wheels for us two and sometimes three times a week. She says she doesn’t mind but we don’t want to overwork her. We could sure use another volunteer for Mondays. D’von Poulson and Susan Shrader deliver on the first Monday of each month but we need someone to take the remaining Mondays each month. If you would be interested in helping on those days please give us a call at 623-4511. We would sure appreciate your help.

Well, I checked out the new quilt this week. It is quite colorful. They tell me it is an Underground Railroad pattern known as Monkey Wrench. Come by and see it or better yet come by and work on it. It belongs to Connie Burcham.

Joy Moon made a memorial donation and Eloise Espy and Wheeler Brothers donated in memory of Larry Bernhardt. Velma Gould donated for the quilt they just finished and Black Star Cattle Company gave us some home-grown beef. We are thankful for all these donations, God bless you all.

Kathy Watt joined our group. We’re glad to have you with us, Kathy.

We’ll be meeting again for games and music next Saturday, Feb. 10. Make plans to come and join us, you don’t have to be a member of the center or even a senior citizen. We’d be glad to have you join us. Please bring along a covered dish to share with everyone. We meet at 6 p.m.

The meals were delivered last week by Brenda and Curt Stein, Janice Hood, Vernon Brickman and Sharon Barnes delivered for us on two days. A big thanks to all of them.

If you like biscuits and sausage gravy, come by on Thursday morning. We only ask for a donation, so come in and eat with us or get one to go. We’ll be glad to see you.

The menu looks good for the next few days. Look it over and find your favorites, then plan to come on down and eat with us. Please call before 10 a.m. for delivery and before noon if you need a meal to go.

Thursday, Feb. 8 – Spaghetti and meat sauce Friday – Breaded chicken breast Monday – Chili and vegetable soup Tuesday – Chicken casserole Wednesday – Kiwanis meets at noon, we eat at 11 Thursday, Feb. 15 – Liver and onions Friday – Fried chicken And don’t forget the Masons will be serving up pancakes and all the trimmings at 7 a.m. Saturday here at the center. They put out a really good breakfast and there’s always plenty of folks to visit with.

That’s about all the news for this week. I hope you all have a great week. Take care, stay safe. ‘Til next week …
