I think the word 'spuddling' describes me accurately. I have become the Queen of Spuddling as well as procrastination. They go hand-in-hand when describing my life.
Spuddling is a very old word meaning to work ineffectively; to work hard but achieve nothing. Procrastinate–To put off that which needs to be done. Me in a nutshell. I will put things off until I can no longer avoid a job, then it'll take me forever because I'm easily distracted and forgetful. So, I guess you could say I'm the poster girl for spuddling and procrastination. That is why I'm sitting here on Monday morning writing this column. Well, that and the fact that Easter was yesterday and Saturday was devoted to making Easter baskets for the grands and greatgrands as well as baking cookies and cupcakes.
Anytime we have a family get-together not held at our house we usually convene at our son's for potluck. I don't like preparing and schlepping food to other houses and since I feel baked goods are my forte, I volunteer to bring desserts that are easily transported before I can be assigned something.
It also means I can make everything ahead and not be on a schedule. The Queen of Procrastination does not like to be rushed.
I turn into the Queen of Spuddling anytime housework is involved. Now spring is here I'm getting my usual urge to clean something. This morning, I caught myself organizing the laundry room where we keep our paper plates as well as disposable cups and cutlery. I found we have enough plastic cutlery to keep us in business for at least six months, even with our large family.
'How did you end up with that much cutlery?' you ask. Well, I'll tell ya. I can never remember what we already have when we go shopping at the big box store so just to be safe, I'll pick up more. Better have it and not need it than need it and not have it, I always say.
I guess I'd better get busy and get the laundry room finished. I need the extra room to stash all the other paper goods and baking paraphernalia that made it to our safe room. Tornado season is sneaking up on us so I'd better quit procrastinating and get busy. I'll be spuddling along now.
