OHCE Week Being Celebrated

Whether they are raising scholarship money, providing tooth fairy pillows to elementary students, or serving as volunteer county fair superintendents, members of Oklahoma State University Extension’s group, Oklahoma Home and Community Education (OHCE), continue to make a difference every day.

Committed to making a difference, this group, established in 1935, is celebrating their service to Oklahoma this week, May 5-11, during Oklahoma Home and Community Education Week. This group knows how to put their hands to good work.

With nearly 3,500 members statewide, group members work together to strengthen individuals, families and communities through education, leadership, and action. Through the group’s relationship with Oklahoma State University Extension family and consumer sciences programming, OHCE presents research-based information to its members. Members also receive monthly educational lessons and have opportunities to attend many hands-on workshops.

In Blaine County, some other activities include hosting the annual holiday bazaar, providing funds for livestock show bonus auction participants, sponsoring the Watonga Library’s Oklahoma author visit, holding the annual cake auction at the county fair where funds provide premiums, and volunteering time and donating items to the 5th and 8th grade wellness days and the senior symposium/reality check programs yearly.

As a way of celebrating, the group will be hosting a tea party luncheon on May 9 at the Noble House with members and invited guests.
