According to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, a Custer County man was injured Friday in a two-car accident at the infamous ‘Y’ intersection nine miles west of Watonga on U.S. 270.
The report shows Alfred Cuellar Reyes, 91, of Thomas, injured in the 10:11 p.m. accident at the intersection, which remains under investigation. He was alone in his 2020 Chrysler Pacifica at the time of the collision.
His vehicle collided with a 2023 Ford F350 driven by Kristopher Elston, 41, of Woodward.
Reyes was transported by air ambulance to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City, where he was admitted in stable condition with head injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
Elston was checked by EMS and did not require transport to a medical facility. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision.
While the incident remains under investigation, the cause of collision is listed as failure to stop at a stop sign.
