Tuesday was election day in Oklahoma. There were few surprises in races of local interest.
In statewide elections, Frank Lucas was returned to his seat as U.S. Representative for Oklahoma District 3, garnering 73.02 % of the vote compared to 13.92 % for Darren Hamilton and 13.06 % for Robin Lynn Carter.
The Corporation Commission race will see a faceoff between Harold Spradling, a Democrat, Chad Williams, a Libertarian and Brian Bingham, a Republican, who outdistanced Justin Hornback and Russell Ray, also Republicans, with 53.42 % to their 28.66 % and 17.91%, respectively to advance to the runoff.
In nearby Major County, there was a race for the state house District 27 seat. The county is lumped in with Beaver and Cimarron, Dewey, Ellis, Harper, Texas, Roger Mills, Wood and Woodward counties. Vying for that seat were incumbent Casey Murdock with 51.94 % of the vote and Cody Anderson with 48.06 % of the vote. Murdock, who lives in Cimarron County, will be returned to his seat. Anderson lives in Ringwood.
Locally, there was a three-way race for Blaine County Clerk.
As all three candidates are Republicans, one had to achieve 50.1% of the votes cast to win the seat outright in this primary election.
Jennifer Haigler, the incumbent, garnered 41.95 % of the vote, while challengers Heather Sawyer-Spangler and Tracy Walker brought in 47.45 % and 10.60 % respectively.
This sends Haigler and Sawyer-Spangler to the runoff, set for August 27.
Meanwhile in the race for county sheriff, former top cop Tony Almaguer was defeated in his bid to regain the position, gathering 37.65 % of the vote to sitting sheriff Travis Daugherty’s 62.35 %. This returns Daugherty to the seat outright with no runoff.
Voters who wish to change party affiliation prior to the November general election may do so beginning September 1 in order to take part in the presidential vote.
