According to probable cause affidavits filed in Blaine County, two Canton residents are facing animal cruelty charges.
The affidavits allege that a Blaine County deputy was contacted by Kimberly Robinson who had picked up a dog at Canton and taken it to a veterinarian in Yukon. She sent photos of the malnourished animal to the deputy who was investigating.
The deputy, Michael Mangrum, went to the home where he contacted Amanda Rowe. He noticed six or seven chained dogs. Of those, about four more also looked malnourished. Rowe told Mangrum they were being sent to a shelter and Robinson was going to take them.
Rowe showed Mangrum some dogs in the house that she planned to keep. She was advised to take those dogs to the vet as well.
Rowe told the deputy the dog at the vet belonged to Lisa and Randall Bainbridge. She showed the deputy her other animals, goats and pigs, that were in good shape.
However, there was a dog being kept in an unventilated, unairconditioned camper. The outside temperature that day was 105 degrees. Rowe said that dog also belonged to Randall Bainbridge.
At that point, the affidavit shows, the Bainbridge couple arrived at the house. They told the deputy the dog that was at the vet was a stray that had shown up about a year ago. They had chained it up, they said, so that it wouldn’t get hit on the road.
The deputy explained that if they kept the dog from leaving, they were responsible for its care. He also demanded that the two dogs the couple claimed as theirs be seen by a veterinarian.
A few days later Robinson messaged Mangrum that the first dog had died. The body was taken to OSU for necropsy.
The report arrived in July and in the opinion of the OSU vet who had performed the postmortem on the dog, it had severe untreated diarrhea, then died from secondary infection and starvation. The Yukon vet who attempted to save the dog offered a similar explanation of the dog’s death.
Both Randall and Lisa Bainbridge are charged with felony animal cru- cruelty.
Each Bainbridge was released on a $5,000
bond. It is unclear when their next court appearance will be.
