The Blaine County Oklahoma Retired Educators Association/Employees met Oct.l4th. at the Noble House to discuss issues happening in the state department with education and retirement with Rep. Mike Dobrinski.
Rep. Dobrinski introduced himself by listing his different committees. He researches and works closely with the power companies developing in the state. He talked about the four sources of power in Oklahoma that are wind, solar, natural gas, and coal. Wind power is currently the number one source of power in the state and is exported out of the state to other areas. Concerning retirees, he said he would be happy to introduce a COLA bill for retired teachers, who have not had an increase in coast of living adjustment for 16 years. He discussed new leadership that would be appointed next term. He encouraged the membership to contact him by email.
Linda Reames, NW Director and member of the OREA Board, reported on the state convention. She also explained how the PAC money was distributed. Members attending also reported on the convention. The convention recognized Patt Curtin as Blaine County Volunteer of the Year and Trinna Caldwell, as Very Important Member.
The door prize, a beautiful bouquet of flowers from Promised Land Flowers by Tiffany Landreth, was won by Bill Seitter. The meeting was then adjourned with a reminder that the next meeting would be December 9 at 11:30 at the Noble House, an auction to raise funds for money to be awarded to outstanding teachers or employees in Canton, Geary, and Watonga Schools.
