SENIOR CENTER NEWS

By Brenda Stein

The big news at the Watonga Senior Citizens is RAIN! We have been hoping and praying for rain for so long that we were certain it was never coming. This weekend we have been blessed with several inches of rain, and no one is complaining. Everyone, including farmers, is grateful.

The menu for the upcoming week is: Thursday, Nov. 7 Goulash Friday --Chicken salad sandwiches Monday -- Chili and soup Tuesday -- Breaded chicken breast Wednesday -- Kiwanis meets at noon Thursday, Nov. 14 Baked potato Friday -- Fried chicken Remember you can eat in each day, except Wednesday, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 pm. On Wednesday, eat in from 11 a.m. to noon. Call in any day before 10 a.m. for home delivery and by noon for to-go meals to pick up. Meals are a deal at just $7. On Thursday mornings, we have biscuits and gravy from 8-10 a.m.

Last week Hailey Boden, Sharon Barnes, Curt and Brenda Stein, Janice Hood and Vernon Brickman made our meal deliveries. These dedicated people deliver in wind, rain and cool weather. Thanks to them all.

I mentioned last week that we accept Best Choice labels and we also accept aluminum cans. Just leave them in a container by the back door. When we get a substantial amount, Andy Barrett takes them to Oklahoma City for redemption. Thanks Andy!

From 6-9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, we will hold our Fun and Games Night. Come join in the food, games of several kinds and live music. All are welcome.

Monday is Veteran's Day, and we will be open. Many businesses will not. Make certain to thank a Veteran if possible. They have protected and kept our land free for all of us.

The Center will have its monthly board meeting, at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 8. Some of our board members will be leaving office at the beginning of the year. If you have any interest in becoming a board member or officer, please contact Karen Biers, board president. The board also welcomes any ideas for improvement, fund-raising or general concern.

Our Center family is saddened by the passing of one of our long-time members, Judy Curtin. She will be missed as our center clerk on Mondays, at exercise three times per week, and our hand- quilting queen. Her funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, at the First Baptist Church. Our thought and prayers are for her family and friends.

Our election is over, and I hope you voted for your candidate and he or she won. Remember, if you did not vote, you have no right to complain. Now, what will be on television, with no election ads and discussions?

We hope you have a wonderful week and come see us at the Watonga Senior Citizens Center.
