EWS

The cooler weather is appropriate for the Christmas Holiday Season. Do you agree? Many years, by this time, we have had snow. Not yet, and not in the forecast. The cooler weather makes me yearn for hot chocolate, marshmallows of course, and Christmas candy. My mother did not make Christmas candy, but my aunt and motherin- law made divinity, fudge and Aunt Bill’s Brown candy. Yum! I saw a survey recently that said Oklahoma’s favorite Christmas candy is Kit-Kats. I don’t know who was surveyed, but I bet they were not my age (which will not be revealed). Coming in second is candy canes and third is reindeer corn. That is Halloween candy corn dyed red, green and white. What I wouldn’t give for a taste of divinity!

Speaking of eating, the menu for next week is: Thursday,Dec.12 Chicken casserole Friday,-- TURKEY AND DRESSING Fund Raiser Monday- Chiliandsoup Tuesday -- Spaghetti and meatballs Wednesday-- Kiwanis meets at noon, we eat at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19 Liver and onions Friday Friedchicken Friday, December 13, is our turkey and dressing fund raiser, and the Masons have agreed to co-sponsor this with us. They help us out all year long and they are very much appreciated. The cost of the meal will be $10, or a generous donation. On other days, we eat from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., except Wednesdays when Kiwanis meets, and we eat from 11a.m. to noon. Call any day by 10 a.m. for home delivery. Those deliveries were made last week by Susan Shrader, Curt and Brenda Stein, Sharon Barnes, Janice Hood and Vernon Brickman.

The center received donations this week from Andy and Linda Barrett and Eldora Horton. Anyone who is trying to finish out your yearly donations, please keep us in mind.

The quilters last week were Louise Cooper, Margarett Parman, Estalene Teply and Connie Burcham. They are doing lovely work and invite anyone to join them on Thursdays.

On Thursday, Dec. 12 the hospital auxiliary will have its final brisket dinner of the year from 11 a.m. to 1p.m. On Saturday night, Dec. 14, the center will host fun and games at 6 p.m. Bring a snack and enjoy cards, dominoes, pool and live music.

This month is half over and the year almost at an end. It seems that 93 % of people give chocolate and candy for the winter holidays. Approximately 150 million chocolate Santas are made each year and 1.76 billion candy canes are made. Sounds about right to me! Happy holidays and we hope to see you Friday the 13th.
