Christmas is a time of giving, and Watonga Community Theatre loves to give the gift of laughter to the community. That’s Christmas to Me is a great break from the hustle and bustle of the holidays, and it’s also an opportunity for audience members to give. In lieu of admission, bring an unwrapped toy or monetary donation to benefit Blaine County DHS. All the proceeds will stay local and be used to help support foster children in Blaine County. Show dates are 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 15 and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 16.
This year’s performance is a traditional olio, which simply means a variety. It’s good old-fashioned skits, talents and fun that all ages will enjoy. With a cast of nearly 50 people, you are sure to recognize some familiar faces on the stage.
“The theatre did our first olio in the fall of 2023 with our high school performance,” said Marie Tech, WCT president. “It was well received, and we enjoyed doing it, so with the conclusion of our Elfira series, we thought this might work for our Christmas show.”
Elfira has been the center of the stage for the past three Christmas shows, but she isn’t going to be left out this year. You will be pleased to see a young version of Elfira, Mrs. Claus and Dancer played by Khaleesi Cypert, Fern Woodruff-Cox and Cord Cowan.
That’s Christmas to Me is directed by Kim Coney, Taylor Coney and Amy Adams. The three have put together skits and musical performances that remind us of traditional Christmas, dysfunctional Christmas, reality Christmas and everything in between. The three will also be performing throughout the show.
Snoop Dog and Martha Stewart, played by Tyshon Wilson and James O’Dell, will serve as the masters of ceremonies for the performances. They each bring their own spice and eloquence to the stage by keeping us informed and prepared for each act.
None of these performances at Watonga Community Theatre would happen without all the behind-the-scenes work. Marie Tech works diligently on costumes, sets, lighting and sound to make each show at the theatre truly come together. She, along with the help of her elves, the WCT board members, has created a winter wonderland on the stage that is breathtaking. One look at the stage and you will be singing Christmas songs and be ready to celebrate with your family.
Please come out and support the Watonga Community Theatre and Blaine County DHS with a Christmas celebration December 15 and 16.
