Ferguson Features

The recently elected board of directors for the Friends of the Ferguson Home wants to thank all supporters and visitors to the museum this year. The newly elected/reelected officers include Connie Burcham, President; Michelle Mendenhall, Vice President; Mary Larson, Treasurer; Joe Bryan, Secretary; and Todd Lafferty, member at large.

You may be aware that two docents are now staffing the Ferguson Home. On Thursdays and Fridays, Rick Larson is in the museum to give tours. On Saturdays and Sunday afternoons, Hunter Martinez gives tours. Both have strong interests in history and are helping to organize the collection. If you have company coming in, the holidays are a great time to visit the museum.

Roy Espy continues to do a Throwback Thursday which he posts on the Ferguson Home Museum Facebook page. And Mr. and Mrs. Claus, ably played by Roy and Janine Espy, have been at the Home and will have their final appearances this Friday-Sunday Dec. 20-22. Hot chocolate at 3 p.m. and caroling at 4 p.m. are scheduled for Sunday.

We want to thank Kenze Lamle and her team for their donation. As part of their Advance Placement (AP) English class at Watonga High School, they took it upon themselves to raise funds to replace the fence that was broken in the June 2023 storm and/or replace the tree that was destroyed in the same storm. We applaud their efforts.

They were first introduced to the Ferguson as third graders and again in Oklahoma History/Government as 9th graders. It is with sincere gratitude that the Friends accept this gift.

And you may have noticed there have been some broken windows on the third floor of the Ferguson Home. Last week, Mike Burcham replaced two sets of windows in the dormer on the west side. Plans are to replace the north and south third floor windows as well with high quality windows.

Cultural/Educational programs and plans for work on the home are shaping up for 2025. We plan several outside speakers, having applied for a small grant from Oklahoma Humanities. Please consider Friends of the Ferguson Home in your year-end giving. It takes a lot to provide the quality programming the Fergusons deserve, and even more to renovate and maintain the 123year-old landmark owned by the city of Watonga.
