The infamous Blaine County ‘Y’ has claimed another life.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, at about noon on Jan. 15, a 2017 Jeep Renegade driven by Dale Whybark of Edmond failed to yield from a stop sign at the intersection.
Whybark, 66, was transported by air ambulance to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City where he was admitted in critical condition. His passenger, 23-year-old Samuel Whybark, was transported to Watonga Mercy Hospital where he was treated and released. The Jeep was struck by a 2012 Ford F250 driven by Michael Masoner, 44, of Grayson, Louisiana. Masoner was also transported to Mercy Watonga, treated and released.
All occupants of the vehicles were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.
The OHP was notified that the elder Whybark had passed away in the hospital on January 21, six days after the accident.
Both drivers appear to have been in a normal state at the time of the accident, which occurred on a dry, clear highway.
OHP was assisted by Watonga EMS, Watonga Fire Department, Blaine County Sheriff’s Office and Air Evac.
Area residents have been searching the area of the accident looking for the dog that was in the car at the time of the crash. She is a large speckled blue dog who answers to ‘Lady.”Reports say she is shy but friendly.
