Get ready for fun and laughter with Watonga Community Theatre’s production of Neil Simon’s beloved comedy classic The Odd Couple: Female Version. This spring, audiences will witness the hilarious chaos and heartwarming friendship of two women, Olive and Florence, as they navigate the challenges of living together after a messy breakup.

Directed by Patt Ward Curtin, The Odd Couple, which is set in the 80s, features lead characters Olive Madison (Amy Adams) and Florence Unger (Kim Coney) who, along with their group of girlfriends, Mickey (Chelsy Gassen), Sylvie (Sondra Burch), Vera (Karrie Beth Little) and Renee (Corry Rogers), are enjoying their weekly Trivial Pursuit game night in Olive’s messy and illequipped apartment. As the game continues, Florence arrives, fresh from being dumped by her long-time husband and calamity ensues. Fearful that the neurotic Florence might attempt suicide, Olive invites her to move in as her roommate. However, Olive and Florence have VERY different personalities. Olive’s easygoing outlook on life soon clashes with Florence’s highly-strung neurotic tendencies, testing their friendship to the limit. When Olive organizes a double-date with the Costazuela brothers Manolo and Jesus (Josh Cox and James O’Dell), their differences come to a head and sparks fly!

Curtin has directed this show twice, in 1989 for WCT, and in the early 90s for Muskogee Little Theatre. The 1989 cast featured Darla (Olive), Jeanne Dobrinski (Florence), Marilyn Brickman Roberts Mackey (Mickey) Sandy Park (Sylvie), Jane Roach Crawford (Renee) and Margie Hursh (Vera).

Curtin said, “I have always wanted to do this classic comedy by Neil Simon again for years. You must have the right cast, and I waited until I thought it would work. It’s timely, and Simon’s writing is spot on. Add to all that, I have an excellent stage manager, Kristen Jane Brown. Everything has to come together—the lighting and sound, the costumes, the set, and that makes it all tick. Marie Tech spearheads the crew—-George Ann Bordelon, Sandra Hightower, Alexa Ivins Roane, Denise Green, Lisa Seitter, Mary Ann Teply, Katy Gilliland, Tara Cowan, Alaya Keierleber, Terri Sue Crawford and Lori Osmus.”

Join us for a night of laughter and entertainment as we celebrate the enduring power of female friendship!
