SENIOR CENTER NEWS

EWS

Another week has passed and now we have wind! This is Oklahoma, remember, and the weather can change in 15 minutes! Even though the weather is hot and windy, you do not need to heat up your kitchen by cooking lunch. Come eat with us at the Watonga Senior Citizens Center Monday through Friday, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., except Wednesdays when Kiwanis meets. Then we eat from 11 a.m. to noon. Call any morning before 10 for home delivery. You can dine in or take out for only $7. Our meals are entrée (meat dish), potatoes, vegetables, salad, homemade roll, dessert and drink. That is a real bargain, with no dishes to wash!

Our upcoming menu is: Thursday, June 26 Ham and Beans Friday Roast Beef (Birthday Lunch) Monday BeefPotPie Tuesday Breaded Pork Loin Wednesday Steak Fingers (Kiwanis Meets) Thursday, July 3 Spaghetti and Meatballs Friday CLOSED Our meals last week were delivered by Sharon Barnes (two days), Janice Hood (two days) and Vernon Brickman. We cannot thank these loyal people enough!

We received donations last week from Joy Moon and Jim and Mae Thompson. Also, Jan and Jeff Franks gave a memorial for Farrol Boyd. Thanks to them for thinking of us.

If you are a paid member of the Watonga Senior Citizens Center, you get a free meal on the last Friday of the month of your birth. Our dues are $15 per year, so Friday, June 27, you can receive a free meal that day. Come on in June birthday members!

On Saturday, June 28 we will host our Fun and Games Night from 6- 9 p.m. at the center. Bring a snack to share and enjoy cards, dominoes, pool and live music.

July 4, Independence Day, is rapidly approaching. It is the federal holiday that celebrates America’s independence from the British Empire nearly 250 years ago. Now we have fireworks, parades, American flags displayed on front porches, and delicious 4th of July foods (don’t forget hot dogs and homemade ice cream.)

An estimated 150 million hot dogs are consumed every year on Independence Day, with watermelon, popsicles and ice cream also top favorites. What is more American than a holiday centered around food, fun and fireworks? Happy July 4th from the Watonga Senior Citizens Center!
