“July makes me glad that air conditioning exists!” We have had some very warm days recently, and it does not appear to be getting any cooler. We had a couple of brief showers but no noticeable amount of rain. Will we complain about the cold temperatures in February like we complain about the heat in July?
Probably. Come to the Watonga Senior Citizens Center to eat with us because we do all the cooking and you won’t have to heat up your kitchen or wash dishes.
We eat from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day, except Wednesday. Then we eat from 11 a.m. to noon, because the Kiwanis meets then. Call any morning before 10 for home delivery. Our upcoming menu: Thursday, July 31 Goulash Friday Indian Tacos Monday Taco Salad Tuesday Chicken Strips Wednesday Chicken Fried Steak (Kiwanis Meets) Thursday, August 7 Breaded Pork Loin Friday Chicken Salad Sandwiches Our meals last week were delivered by Hailey Boden, Sharon Barnes, Brenda Stein, Janice Hood and Vernon Brickman. We are grateful for their dedication and service.
Our quilters this week were Louise Cooper, Martha White and Estalene Teply. They are progressing nicely on the star quilt in their frame. You should come see the beautiful quilt hanging on the wall at the center. It is a trapunto quilt of wheat stalks, made by Sharon Barnes’ grandmother for her grandfather, a wheat farmer. Trapunto comes from an Italian word meaning to quilt or embroider. This quilt is completely done by hand and is unique and one of a kind.
We received donations of vegetables this week from Janice Hood, Jeannette Perez and Janet Edsall. We all enjoyed squash, cucumber and zucchini from their gardens. Our thanks to them for thinking of us.
Our doctor says that we should get 30 minutes of physical activity daily and 60 minutes of mental challenges daily. Come to the center and exercise with us on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 9 a.m. for your physical exercise. We also have jigsaw puzzles, card games and a large library to get your mind engaged daily. We do not want to grow old gracefully—we want to grow old kicking and screaming! Come see us at the Watonga Senior Citizens Center!
