Film Chronicling Fight to Save Local Journalism to Premier

PBS’s new documentary Stripped for Parts: American Journalism on the Brink will receive its first public Oklahoma screening on Tuesday, Oct. 7, during the University of Central Oklahoma’s annual Media Ethics Conference.

The event will be held in the Liberal Arts Building, A complimentary dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m., followed by the documentary screening at 8 p.m. in Room L02.

The documentary, directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Rick Goldsmith, examines how one hedge fund has bought and gutted local newspapers across the United States, and how journalists are fighting back to preserve a free press. OETA Vice President of Production Susan Cadot will introduce the film at UCO.

Stripped for Parts does exactly what a good socially conscious documentary should do — identifies an urgent problem, explains how we got here, why it matters and, most important, considers what we should do about it,” said Victor Pickard, professor of media policy and political economy at the University of Pennsylvania.

The screening is part of UCO’s Media Ethics Conference, which explores issues at the intersection of journalism, media, and society. More details are available a t ucomediaethicscon.carrd .co.
