SENIOR CENTER NEWS

By Brenda Stein

The holiday spirit has really come to Watonga. Friday night was the tree-lighting ceremony at Centennial Park, with wagon rides to the Ferguson Chapel and Ferguson Home. Then Saturday morning, children had Breakfast with Santa at the Noble House Bed and Breakfast. Then later that day, Santa and Mrs. Claus were at the Holiday Bazaar. There was plenty of food, crafts and music to fill anyone’s heart. Sunday afternoon, the Watonga School bands had concerts with wonderful Christmas songs. The list goes on and on!

At the Watonga Senior Citizens Center, the elves have come and decorated the center to put everyone in the holiday mood. Come dine with us each day from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m, except Wednesday, when we eat from 11 a.m. to noon. Call any morning before 10 am for home delivery. We welcome everyone of any age to dine with us. Our menu for the next few days is: Thursday, Dec. 11 Barbecue Sausage Friday Chicken Fried Steak Monday Vegetable Soup or Chili Tuesday Chicken Spaghetti Wednesday Steak Fingers (Kiwanis Meets) Thursday, Dec. 18 Liver and Onions Friday Fried Chicken (Birthday Dinner) Our meals were delivered last week by Susan Shrader, Connie George, Sharon Barnes, Brenda Stein, Janice Hood and Vernon Brickman. These people are superstars and we appreciate their dedication and deliveries.

Memberships this week were renewed by LaWayne and Dorene Flaming. Our thanks to them. Membership to the center is $15 annually, and you get a free meal on the month of your birthday. This month that meal will be on Friday, December 19, since we will be closed on the last Friday of the month, December 26. Annual dues help keep our center open to you.

From 7 -10 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, the Watonga Masonic Lodge will host its monthly breakfast at the center. Come enjoy a delicious way to start your weekend.

That evening, the center will host its Fun and Games Night, from 6- 9 p.m. Come play cards, dominoes, pool; have a snack and enjoy live music.

On Monday, December 15, the Cheyenne Quilt Guild will host its monthly meeting at the center. If you are a quilter, or are interested in quilting, come join them at 6 p.m. for a snack, lesson and show-and-tell session. It is truly amazing to look at some of the creations these folks make!

“Christmas is the season of joy, of gift-giving, and of families united,” “The best of all gifts around Christmas is love in action. Every time we love, every time we give, it’s Christmas.”

Merry Christmas from the Watonga Senior Citizens Center!
