Official Press Release on City Manager

WATONGA – The City of Watonga appointed previous Guthrie City Manager Leroy Alsup as its new city manager.

Alsup holds a bachelor of science degree from West Texas State University in geography/ political science, a master of arts from Miami University in geography/urban and regional planning, a master in public administration from the University of Kansas and a master of business administration from Southwestern College.

Alsup is also a certified grant administrator, a certified economic developer and a graduate of Leadership Oklahoma.

Alsup has also been professionally recognized as the Gerald Wilkins award winner, which is provided to the Oklahoma Municipal Manager of the Year. He received an outstanding service award from the Guthrie Area Chamber of Commerce and was recognized by the City of Guthrie for his extraordinary dedication to the city employees.

Alsup shared, “During my visit, I was genuinely impressed by the hospitality and openness of the mayor and city council. I am excited to work closely with the residents and the Watonga City Council in order to contribute to our future development.”

Mayor Ryan Bruner expressed enthusiasm about Alsup’s appointment, stating, “I am pleased that Mr. Alsup will be joining us. He possesses the professional experience we need, along with a genuine enthusiasm for Watonga’s future.”

Council Member Neal Riley commended the collaborative process by noting that “working with Oklahoma Municipal Management Services (OMMS) made this transition seamless and enjoyable. Their support helped the council stay aligned with our goals and the decision reflects our shared commitment to working as a team for the betterment of Watonga.”

Council member Howard Hursh said that Watonga is very lucky to have someone like Alsup leading the community. Vice mayor Roy Hampton stated that he looks forward to working with the new city manager and all the exciting things he has planned for the community.

OMMS Executive Director Steve Whitlock added, “Oklahoma Municipal Management Services was honored to assist the Watonga City Council in the hiring process. We look forward to continued success in Watonga and welcome Mr. Alsup accordingly.”
