Our daughter is a thief. And more than a little spoiled, but that is a different column.This is our youngest girl, but don’t think for a heartbeat that makes her the baby, even though there are 10 years between her and the Boy.Tay never allowed us to baby her.

There is a lot going on with the Friends of the Ferguson Home during the so called ‘slow season.’ Mary Larson, our treasurer, is preparing tax documents for about 100 members or donors in 2024 and these will be mailed out soon. We thank you for your generosity.

Education of women in the Territories (Oklahoma and Indian Territories) was augmented by the formation of Women’s Federated Clubs. The local club, known during the 1960s as the Mothers Self Culture Club, played an important role in the restoration of the T.B. and Elva Ferguson Home.

SENIOR CENTER NEWS

We had a beautiful snow last week, and very cold temperatures. We hope everyone stayed warm and cozy. There were several businesses and government closings, as well as schools.

Then there was the time when the Stranger, Timberline and a mountain lion had a face-off.It might be easier to understand if you are acquainted – at least on paper – with Timberline. He was a tall, lanky brown and white paint horse with an evil temperament and one blue eye.

As we ended 2024 activities of the Friends of the Ferguson Home, we are planning for several activities in 2025. To recap 2024, we began our year with a membership drive and now have 80 members! In addition, more than 1,200 people are friends of the T.B. Ferguson Home Facebook page.

It’s funny how holidays change as one’s family changes. At this time of the year 20 years (or more) ago, I was up to my elbows in wrapping paper, decorations, shopping and cooking.But as the children matured and eventually went out on their own, things got quieter.

As the year comes to a close, it is fitting to reflect on what we were able to accomplish on behalf of our great state.

At this time of the year, I am reminded of Elva Ferguson’s account of her family’s first Christmas in Watonga in 1892. They were living in a fourroom structure with the room having the best light as the print room.
