Recently, I was invited by state Rep. Judd Strom and Labor Commissioner Leslie Osborn to testify at an Oklahoma House of Representatives interim study examining child labor laws and what is happening across the nation. I’m unsure if it is the wet chilly weather or perhaps the waning of the year, but recent weeks have been kicking my behind. Things that used to get my creative juices working overtime are now surprises on the calendar.

It isn’t hard to fall into holiday doldrums, or the blues. Social media and holiday cards or visits can exacerbate the situation. Toss in shorter, darker daylight hours and it creates a trifecta of potential for a list of maladies.

Hi everyone! It’s almost Thanksgiving. Have you got the turkey thawed yet? I hope so. I’m not coking a whole turkey this year. John and I both prefer dark meat so I’m cooking a couple of turkey legs. We’ll see how they turn out. We’re having another family get together at the Senior Citizen’s Center. We won’t have as many as last time but we’ll have a good time. Shannon is cooking the turkey, I’m making the dressing. That’s one of my contributions every year and everyone seems to like it.

The 2023 OICA Fall Forum concluded last week, and it was an intense four days of learning and sharing for those attending the conference. Advocates in attendance shared thoughts about improvements in law and policy to benefit children.
