Athlete Spotlight: State Qualifier Rooted in His Culture

Ernesto Duenez is 16 and a junior at Watonga High School. He’s very involved with his school activities, as he’s in a number of clubs and he’s in football and wrestling. He’s gone to Watonga Public Schools for all of his life, and is now enrolled at the Western Technology Center for engineering.

WATONGA — The Merritt fans involved in a Saturday altercation with a Watonga Eagles player have denied using racist language to provoke him, but the Watonga administration disagrees.

Watonga Officials Say Racist Language Led to Player Reaction

FAIRVIEW – Emotions boiled over Saturday night as Eagles player Laron Whiteshield had to be forcibly removed to the Watonga locker room during a playoff loss to the Merritt Oilers in Fairview.

High School Wrestling State Qualifiers

The Oklahoma High School Wrestling Championships will be held this Friday and Saturday, Feb. 25 and 26, at the State Fairgrounds Arena in Oklahoma City. Session I begins Friday at 5:30 p.m. and the medal matches will be Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Congratulations to our local State qualifiers!

Eagles Named District Champs

The Watonga Eagles started their journeys to the Big House on Saturday Feb 19th. Both teams came away with a win against the Tonkawa Buccaneers, making them District Champions on their home court. The Lady Eagles ended with a score of 55-29 and the Eagles 75-50.

Athlete Spotlight: Queen Of the Mat

Braeleigh LaShawn Johnson is a senior at Watonga High School. Most people refer to her as Shawn. She’s a member of the wrestling team, and she also ran cross country and will be running track and field this spring. She enjoys drawing, cooking, and being active in her free time.
