The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has added new symptoms to the list of warning tip-offs for the Covid-19 virus.

Sufferers may experience fever and/or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell and sore throat. New indicators released in May include congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting and diarrhea. There are other possible symptoms.

Anyone who is experiencing trouble breathing, persistent pain or heaviness in the chest, confusion that is new, inability to stay awake or lips with a blue tint should seek emergency care. Notify the facility that the patient has or may have the virus.

Older adults, those 65 or older, and those with underlying medical conditions should take extra precautions to avoid becoming ill with the virus.

Furthermore, the CDC notes some minority groups such as non-Hispanic black persons, Hispanic and Latino, American Indians and Alaska Natives have higher rates of hospitalization or death than in non-Hispanic white persons. Non-Hispanic American Indian, black or Alaska Natives are infected at a five times higher rate than non-Hispanic white persons while Hispanic or Latinos have an infection rate that is four times that of non-Hispanic white persons.
