Legislative Session is Underway

I wanted to provide an update on the implementation of the Terry Peach North Canadian Watershed Restoration Act. This act, put in statute through my House Bill 2239, created a pilot program to explore solutions to the red cedar infestation prevalent in our state.

Tax Season Drives Me Nuts

I hate this time of year. I work myself into a 'tizzy' just thinking about it. I say we have a flat tax and be done with it. No more ten zillion 'deductions' that apply only to the wealthy. No more paying taxes on things we already paid taxes on when we purchased them.

Hi, everyone! Hope you’ve had a good week. Wasn’t the snow pretty? I was hoping we’d get a little more than we did but it was pretty to watch. I am again asking for someone to volunteer to deliver our meals on wheels on Mondays, other than the first Monday of each month.

The rules about leap years

It's widely accepted that a year is 365 days long. However, that statement is not entirely accurate. In fact, it takes Earth a little more than 365 days (365.24223 days to be precise) to orbit the sun. A calendar cannot accommodate that small distinction every year.

Americans Celebrate Presidents' Day

Americans celebrate Presidents' Day each year on the third Monday in February. The holiday is known as Washington's Birthday within the federal government.

Champion Grin

Little Memphis Schultz is assisted by Kelsi Scheihing showing a goat Sunday during the loal livestock show’s Ring of Champions. The event features FFA nad 4H showmen helping special needs students show borrowed livestock. There were more than 30 participants. Each won an award. 

Area Teams Headed to Regional Play

Several area teams are headed to district play. Both Watonga basketball teams are slated to face off against Hooker on Feb. 17 at Hooker. Tip off for the Lady Eagles is at 6 p.m. On the wrestling mats, Watonga is scheduled to meet Vinita at 10 a.m. on February 16 at Vinita.
