A few new additions have been made to the usual unusual lineup for the Watonga Cheese Festival. The FFA will host a petting zoo across the street from the armory. Expect to see sheep, goats, perhaps some rabbits and pigs, and maybe even a mini or two.

Watonga Board Hears Construction Updates

The Watonga School Board heard the first set of student data Monday at the regular meeting. While that data showed growth in most areas, there are still some areas of concern, such as third grade math proficiency, which was at 26%, well below the state average of 32%.

Officer Shot After Pursuit

According to Watonga Chief of Police Beth Massey, about 8:25 a.m. on September 26, Watonga PD officer David Lacey attempted a traffic stop on a reported stolen vehicle. The driver did not stop and a pursuit began. The driver crashed near CR 2540 and CR 850 south of Watonga.

According to Jodi Ayers, a counselor at Watonga Elementary, the school has been given the opportunity to have Laura Kent, an artist here in Oklahoma, visit every week to teach a curriculum lesson to the PreK 5th grade students.

Friends and family members gathered at Legion Park September 28 for the dedication of a park bench to the memory of Larry Jenkins. Jenkins was considered an elder of the Black community in Watonga and worked at the courthouse and the school system for many years.
