Hi, everyone! I hope you had a good week. I’m happy to say the garage sale went really well. First I want to thank everyone that donated items for the sale, the center was packed with merchandise for sale. Thank you all so much for your support. We really appreciate all that was donated.

Deep Cleaning is a Chore

It's amazing what one can find when one starts deep cleaning a room that's basically been a storage dump for the last several months. With my treatments, it doesn't take much to zap my energy but I've been feeling good lately, so I decided I was ready to tackle my office.

Lomega Local Fair Takes Place This Saturday

The local fair in Lomega is planned for Saturday, Aug. 12. The livestock show will commence at 8 a.m. at the Lomega Show Barn near the elementary school. The show order is sheep first, then goats, cattle and pigs, followed by showmanship from pee-wees to adults.

TB Ferguson 'Honest Tom' was born March 17, 1857, near De Moines Iowa. The following year his family moved to Emporia, Kansas. His mother died in 1860 and his father enlisted in the Union Army at the beginning of the Civil War. He was raised by his older sister.

Planning For 46th Cheese Festival Underway

Dates and other particulars for the 46th annual Watonga Cheese Festival have been announced. The biggest change is that there will only be one day of the festival this year, Saturday, Oct. 14.

Public schools in Watonga begin the 2023-24 year Aug. 10. But this year there was no race to fill shopping carts with notebooks and lined paper.

Geary School Board met Monday in regular session. All members were in attendance. The Baby Bison report showed there were 16 children enrolled in July with an average attendance of 15 or 16. Gretchen Melvin will serve as the director of the Baby Bison Ranch, where she is a master teacher.

Grant Program Seeks to Protect Rural American From Wildfire Threat

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack hasannounced the Department of Agriculture’s Forest Service is again accepting applications for the Community Wildfire Defense Grant program.
