Great Rat Race

Thirty-nine iterations of the Great Rat Race have come and gone and the 40th is coming down the home stretch. Runners can enter the 1M fun run/walk, or the 5K or 10K races. The race will be held on Saturday, Oct. 9. Ward & Glass is a major sponsor of the run. All three races will begin at 9 a.m.

TLC Dancers

Watonga’s TLC Dancers will be performing during this year’s Watonga Cheese Festival at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 9 on the Centennial Park Stage. The TLC Dancers will perform tap, ballet and clogging for those who attend the show. The Dancers are under the direction of Bobbi Schenk.

A Cheesy History: The Watonga Cheese Story

It has now been several years since the remnants of the old Watonga Cheese Factory were reduced to a pile of rubble by bulldozers and backhoes. Now, all that remains is history. The factory hasn’t been in Watonga since it moved to Perryton, Texas back in September of 2010.

The Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, Oct. 1, for the Lucky Star Hotel and Convention Center in Watonga. The casino and hotel held a "Tribal Night" grand opening on Friday before a grand opening party for the general public on Saturday, Oct. 2.

FFA Chapter Officers Are Challenged to Lead Up

Officers of the Watonga and Geary FFA chapters participated in the 2021 Oklahoma FFA Chapter Officer Leadership Training Conference Sept. 28 at the Enid Event Center in Enid, Oklahoma. The eight state FFA officers planned and conducted this year’s conference based on the theme, “Lead Up.

C&A Voters Pass Blood Quantum Change

CONCHO – Cheyenne and Arapaho voters Tuesday agreed to change the tribes’ blood quantum requirements so that individuals with 1/8 Cheyenne or Arapaho blood can become enrolled tribal members.

The Blaine County 4-H Officers attended the County Commissioners meeting on October 4, 2021 to have them sign the proclamation declaring it National 4-H Week in Blaine County. The 4-H members told them about their projects and other activities that they are doing in 4-H.

Adulting in 2021

I never in my wildest dreams imagined that adulting in my "Golden Years" would be so hard or boring or repetitive. Who came up with the idea of calling our time after 65+ years on this mortal coil the "Golden Years"? I also never imagined I'd be adding the word 'adulting' to my vocabulary.
