Hi everyone! Well we made it through another Cheese Festival. And it was a good one. Lots of people came out to enjoy. It helped that the weather was great! I hope most of you got out to check it out. I heard some of the vendors said it was the best in several years as far as sales. That's good.

WATONGA – A thick plume of black smoke could be seen rising southeast of Watonga Monday afternoon, but the fire department responded with several trucks and was able to put out the fire before it consumed any structures or spread widely.

When I first started researching Watonga earlier this year before accepting my current position, the Watonga Cheese Festival is one of the first things I learned about. It seemed like a wholesome, fun, quirky tradition that helps define small communities like these.
Former Watonga Mayor Gary Olsen cuts the cheese – a block of Watonga cheese, that is – in 2018 to officially kick off the festival. The ceremonial cutting of cheese will take place at 6:00 p.m. Thursday Oct. 7 at Centennial Park.

Before the Friday and Saturday festivities, this year’s Watonga Cheese Festival will begin on Thursday, Oct. 7, at Centennial Park on Main Street.
