CDC Has Guidelines for Essential Employees Who Have Been Exposed to Coronavirus
To keep essential workers working, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests following additional precautions for those with no symptoms, even if they have had potential exposure.
Potential exposure is considered household or other close contact within six feet of a confirmed or suspected Covid-19 patient. Those who have been exposed but remain symptom free should check their temperature and look for symptoms before beginning work each day during the 14-day window, preferably before they enter their work building.
The employee should wear a mask at all times and maintain a six-foot distance between themselves and others. Workspaces and shared spaces should be cleaned and disinfected more rigorously and frequently, including shared electronics.
If the employee becomes ill during the work shift, they should go home immediately, their work station disinfected and a list of those with whom they had contact compiled. They should be considered exposed and further guidance sought to prevent and slow the spread of COVID-19 in the workplace. Additional guidance includes workers not sharing headsets or other objects that are near mouth or nose; more frequent and vigorous cleaning of commonly touched surfaces; increase air exchange in rooms; and use physical distancing during common area break time.
