Senate Review

We hit the ground running with the start of the legislative session last week. We began by hearing the State of the State address from Governor Stitt. I appreciated his comments and look forward to working with him as we review legislation and craft our state budget.

Happy birthday, T.B. T.B. Ferguson, that is. His birthday is March 17, also St. Patrick’s Day. If you are feeling festive, stop by the Watonga Library that afternoon for cake and punch. It may even be green punch. But it isn’t about T.B. or the house I wish to write today.

It has been a crazy busy couple of days. There was stock show Saturday and Sunday and Tuesday features the Methodist pancake supper, city council meeting and the premium auction fundraiser for the stock show participants.

Report From the Legislature

The First Session of the 59th Legislature got underway Monday, Feb. 6. Our first order was to convene a joint session of the House and Senate to listen to the governor's fifth annual State of the State address.

Dear Editor: Thank you to the two young gentlemen, one in a Continental Resources, white pick up and one in a red pickup who helped my husband and me Feb. 9. We were on our way back from Oklahoma City and pulled over in an empty Watonga parking lot on Highway 3 to exchange driving seats.

It is a well established fact that what I find exciting is incredibly boring to many others, but there is no way any Okie could be in the Capitol building without being impressed. First, it’s the Capitol. It’s our Capitol. It is a majestic old building and I am a sucker for old buildings.

Financial Restraint Creates Opportunity

In his recent State of the State address, Gov. Kevin Stitt noted Oklahoma government now has $4 billion in savings and sufficient growth revenue to allow for major tax cuts and statewide school choice while boosting spending in key areas. He’s right.
